Principal Investigator – MD/DO

Location: Gilbert, AZ

Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site

Focus: Liver & Metabolic Health / Clinical Research

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Investigator (MD or DO) to lead clinical research operations at a growing research site in Gilbert, AZ. The PI will have primary responsibility for the clinical and regulatory oversight of active industry-sponsored clinical trials, initially overseeing studies focused on liver and metabolic health .

This is a full-time, on-site research leadership opportunity. Candidates with a Gastroenterology or Hepatology background may also have the opportunity to negotiate partial clinical practice time through an affiliated gastroenterology practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Principal Investigator with overall responsibility for trial integrity, patient safety, protocol adherence, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide medical oversight across all active clinical trials and ensure studies are conducted in accordance with GCP, FDA regulations, IRB requirements, and study protocols .
• Supervise and provide clinical direction to Sub-Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators, and Research Assistants .
• Review and sign off on medical documentation, laboratory results, adverse events, and protocol-required assessments.
• Conduct high-level patient evaluations, screening approvals, and follow-up study visits.
• Participate in patient visits primarily during morning fasting windows .
• Partner with the current/retiring Principal Investigator during a short transition period to assume responsibility for ongoing studies and facilitate a smooth handoff with sponsors and research staff.
• Collaborate with the research team to maintain strong study execution, patient safety, data quality, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

• MD or DO degree.
• Previous experience serving as the Principal Investigator on at least 5 clinical studies .
• Demonstrated experience providing medical oversight of clinical research studies.
• Ability to work full-time and on-site in Gilbert, AZ .

Preferred Qualifications

• Gastroenterology or Hepatology background preferred.
• Experience with Fatty Liver Disease, MASH/MASLD, or metabolic health studies.
• Previous experience with GLP-1 clinical trials .
• Candidates without a GI/Hepatology background are encouraged to apply if they meet the PI experience requirements and are interested in a 100% clinical research-focused role .

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time, on-site position in Gilbert, AZ.
• Approximately 8-hour workday .
• Patient visits typically begin around 7:30–8:00 AM due to fasting study requirements.
• Clinic operations generally conclude around 5:00 PM .
